Salt Chlorine Generators
“Never Buy Chlorine Again, With BETTER Pool Water”

Chlorine generators, developed in the 1970’s, are quickly becoming the most sought after form of alternative pool sanitation available in today’s marketplace. By turning ordinary salt into a self-regenerating supply of pure chlorine for both pools and spas, chlorine generators can show you the way to trouble free pool maintenance and the most luxurious, softest feeling water imaginable — everyday, the natural way. The advantages are many: softer water, consistent chlorine levels, does not dry out your skin, does not bleach your bathing suits, you can open your eyes underwater – no burning eyes, saves time and money on smart water chemistry, Never deal with irritating dry skin or red eye syndrome. Never buy, transport or store chlorine again.
Salt chlorinators are typically 2 components; a power supply and a cell. The power supply is usually mounted by a power source (time clock) and is fed power from load side (pump). Meaning it will only be operating when the pump is on. The cell is plumbed after the last piece of equipment, (heater, or filter). The unit must be properly sized to be able to produce the required amount of chlorine. Example: if you have a 20,000-gallon pool you will need a unit that is designed for 20,000 gallons or higher. In my experience, a larger unit is recommended, as it will not have to work as hard and hence last longer.
Once everything is properly installed, follow the recommendation of the manufacturer by install the correct amount of salt. The salt that is recommended is iodine free and typically comes in 40 or 50 pound bags. It is recommended to test the water for salts first as some products (Liquid Chlorine) slowly build up salt levels over time. So cut open the bag of salt and pour into pool. It will dissolve over a short period of time and your system will start producing chlorine. Approximately a little less than a teaspoon of salt per every gallon of water is required. As the dissolved salt flows through the cell, it is electrolyticly converted to pure chlorine, which is distributed throughout the pool, sanitizing the water, keeping it fresh, clear and safe.
You will notice that, on the power center, you can control the output up to a 100%. Set to the recommended level based upon season and bather loads. So if it’s wintertime you can reduce the output of chlorine since it does not over chlorinate. Exact opposite in the summer; turn it up to maintain chlorine levels.
Unlike conventional chlorine additives that must be constantly replenished, the salt is recycled continuously, day after day, to further reduce pool maintenance. Most generators keep the cells clean with automatic reverse cycling that prevents scale build up on the cell. Cleaning can also be accomplished manually with a diluted solution of acid in water.
